Tucked in and around a ribbon of crystal clear waterways, The Fairmont Mayakoba is literally in the center of this new resort complex on the Mayan Riviera. As Ignacio del Yerro Valdes, Mayakoba's director, says, "We sought out Fairmont as they have a long history of providing guests with exceptional service and distinctive experiences that truly reflect the destination."

The distinctive nature of this Fairmont resort is evident from the moment you arrive. To maintain the authenticity and delicate ecology, vehicles are parked in a main lot and transportation throughout The Fairmont Mayakoba is accomplished via covered boats called lanchas, electric golf carts, bicycles or on foot. Sheltered under the forest canopy, the 401-room property's distinguishing features include a Willow Stream spa with treetop treatment areas, a secluded beach alongside one of the world's largest reefs, two infinity edge pools, signed nature trails, five restaurants and a private island suite. Fairmont will also manage the neighboring 18-hole El Camale?n, Greg Norman's long-awaited first golf course in Mexico.

The Fairmont Mayakoba's oversized rooms and suites echo the ambiance of an elegant Mexican home, in a mellow, sun-bleached palette of gold, soft reds and oranges. At the same time, natural elements - wood, stone and sunlight - unify indoors and outdoors. The generous spa-style bathrooms feature deep soaker tubs and separate glass-walled showers which face into plant-filled, enclosed terraces. All accommodations offer high-speed Internet access, LCD televisions, DVD and CD players. Each room also has a balcony or terrace with views of ocean, lagoons, mangroves, jungle or golf course.

Accommodations, including 34 suites, are located in the low-rise main complex or clustered in two-story casitas located throughout the property. Premium Mirasol oceanside accommodations extend panoramas of rolling dunes, white sand shoreline and sparkling Caribbean waters. An opulent suite on its own island, the Royal Island Suite, offers a living/dining room, study, pantry, bedroom and a private plunge pool.

A 20,000 square foot Willow Stream spa features 20 treatment rooms including a unique couple's suite in the treetops, plus two mineral pools and steam rooms. A thoughtfully crafted menu of services includes exclusive Willow Stream treatments, some of which incorporate indigenous ingredients and ancient native traditions, as well as the award-winning spa?s signature experiences.

Truly unspoiled, the sugar-soft beach at The Fairmont Mayakoba is reached via a pathway across the mangrove and gentle dunes - a pleasant stroll or ride from the main resort building and just steps from the beachfront casitas. This Caribbean shore is ideal for strolling, swimming, kayaking and coral reef snorkeling, or just relaxing in one of the shaded cabanas. There are five swimming pools throughout the property including a 10,000 square foot free-form pool and waterslide, a children's play pool, and an adults-only infinity edge pool overlooking the lagoon.

There are still more recreation options at The Fairmont Mayakoba: interactive nature tours incorporating bird watching and native culture; "moonwalks" highlighting the Mayan legacy of astronomy and calendars; and golf at El Camale?n. Like other Fairmont-managed golf courses across North America, this course will participate in the internationally recognized Audubon sanctuary certification program.

Dining options include La Laguna Grill & Bar, an al fresco restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner in a tropical atmosphere; Las Brisas, an elegant oceanside restaurant featuring contemporary seafood; El Puerto, located in the main building; and Caf? Maya, a sunrise-to-sunset market cafe. Tropical cocktails, locally inspired tapas and live music are offered in the Lobby Lounge and guests can swim up to the bar at Las Olas. All day in-room dining is also available.

The Fairmont Mayakoba has been carefully designed to harmonize with its surroundings, respecting the mangrove forest and its abundant wildlife. For example, the entire complex has been designed to integrate with the natural terrain and treeline; and native plants have been preserved and returned to the site using indigenous re-planting techniques. The Fairmont Mayakoba will participate in Fairmont's award-winning Green Partnership program, an environmental stewardship plan that focuses on guest education and exploration, waste management, habitat protection and energy use reduction.

Featuring a collection of fabled castles, secluded lodges, storied meeting places and modern retreats, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts opens the doors to some of the world's most celebrated addresses. With locations throughout eight countries, our 46 distinctive hotels - including The Fairmont San Francisco, The Fairmont Banff Springs and The Fairmont Dubai - promise travelers unparalleled settings, rich experiences and lasting memories.
